How does a zinc carbon battery work?
Zinc-based batteries work in a very similar fashion to Li-ion batteries. In these batteries, zinc ions travel from anode to cathode through a liquid electrolyte, and these ions undergo chemical reactions at both the battery's anode and its cathode.

Are zinc carbon batteries rechargeable?
No. Zinc carbon batteries cannot be recharged. The zinc and carbon present in the batteries are in dry form and cannot be recharged.

Zinc carbon vs alkaline batteries
The biggest difference between zinc carbon and alkaline batteries other than the electrolyte used is the capacity. Alkaline batteries have a bigger capacity than zinc carbon batteries and are more suited to devices and applications that require more power on a long-term basis. Alkaline batteries also have a longer lifespan.
